If you’re told to do something you’ve never done before, do you just go ahead and do it, consequences notwithstanding? You wouldn’t dare to, right? What do you do first, then? You train, of course! Training for Mount Toubkal is important.

On the same note, the last thing you want is to climb Mount Toubkal without undergoing the necessary training required for the activity. 

Mount Toubkal: A Quick Perspective 

Pronounced as “tub kal,” Mount Toubkal is standing tall in North Africa. It is also the highest peak in the northern part of this huge continent. 

For some reason, a lot of people seem to assume that climbing this mountain is a rather easy featy, only because it is often categorized as a multi-day trek you can finish in just a matter of five days or so. 

However, those who do choose to trek the mountain without undergoing any training first end up filled with regrets the moment they encounter difficulties during the actual hike. 

There is no way to contest of trekking the mountain as being an incredible trek worth adding to any bucket list accessible for almost everyone in Europe. 

So, why would you even dare waste the chance to enjoy every single second of your trek just because you didn’t come prepared? Your trek will be so much better if you undergo proper training and prepare for it way ahead of time. 

Just so you know, there are two primary reasons why you should undergo training before you trek Mount Toubkal:

A Matter of Altitude

The altitude of the summit of Mount Toubkal is 4,167m. Perched just a little more than 4,000m, it wouldn’t be a stretch to classify it as a huge mountain. 

If trying to imagine the height of 4,000m seems a bit impossible for your mind to imagine and grasp, you can try walking for 4 kilometers or go for a run in a straight or almost straight line. 

When you do this, you will be able to put into perspective the true magnitude of the mountain. Most importantly, it will make you realize why training for your trek is crucial. 

Gradient Profile

An extremely steep climb will face you anywhere between days two and three. This takes you from around 2,000m all the way to the peak of 4,167m in a distance that runs for only a matter of 15km. What does it mean? It means you just gained 2,167m additional attitude in just a snap!

Again, to help you envision it, Mount Everest’s summit day is a gain of just around 850m in terms of vertical meters. While it’s a no brainer that Toubkal’s size is half of that of Everest, the altitude gain in still a huge one in just a short period of time. 

You can almost be sure that getting to the peak of that mount will come with a challenge and plenty of puffing and huffing along the way!
