Jebel saghro Morocco Trek

Towards Ouarzazate stands the Jebel Sagho Morocco, a pre-Saharan massif between Dades, Atlas and Drâa. Landscapes sumptuous plateaus of forests of basalt peaks, a mineral chaos that conceals tiny villages surrounded by palm trees. Between Skoura and Tazzarine there are grandiose circuses where one crosses all winter the camps of Aït Atta and their camel caravans. A remarkable hike between desert and nomads.

Here is a nice Trek itinerary in djebel saghro in Morocco:

 

Day 1: Marrakech – Dades valley – Tagdilte – Isk N’Alla peak. Departure by minibus to the Dades valley (5h30 transfer), picnic, meeting with the team of muleteers in the village of Tagdilte then start of the hike, passage near the peak Isk N’Alla, installation of the bivouac at 2000m in Iferd N’Ouarg, we are at the foot of Jebel Sagho.

Hours of walking: between 3h30 and 4h Elevation +: 450 m Elevation -: 100 m Accommodation: in a tent Transfer: Vehicle, between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.

 

Day 2: Piton Isk N’Alla – summit of Kouaouch. Departure early in the morning, in successive stages, ascent of the summit of Kouaouch (2592m), panoramic view from the summit on the snow-capped chain of the central High Atlas with in particular the M’Goun and its 4068m. Slight steep descent to reach the evening bivouac installed at 2100m. It will be the coolest night of your trek, especially in December / January.

Day 3: Igli – Bab N’Ali. We leave the site of Igli which means “lawn” downhill along the gorges of Afourar, where we discover natural pools, waterfalls and small hamlets nestled at the foot of the cliffs, occupied by sedentary nomads. Picnic stop near the pools where possibility of swimming depending on the climate. In the afternoon, continue to the oasis of Bab N’Ali, setting up the bivouac facing the rocky peaks at an altitude of 1550m.

Elevation -: 400 m

Accommodation: in a tent

 

Day 4: Tamguist palm grove. We climb to reach the desert plateau and the needle forest of Tadaout Ntiblah at 1800m, a very characteristic site with its immense rocky peaks in the form of fairy chimneys. Continue along a magnificent transhumance trail to reach the Tamguist palm grove, setting up the bivouac in the heart of the palm grove at 1400m.

Hours of walking: between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. Elevation +: 500 m

Elevation -: 400 m

Accommodation: in a tent

 

Day 5: Tamguist palm grove – Tmarendout oasis. Stage south from village to village, along the orchards of the Taoudacht valley. On the way it is not uncommon to meet peasants working their small plots. Continuation and installation of the bivouac in the parade and the oasis of Tmarendout (1200m).

Hours of walking: between 4:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Elevation +: 100 m

Elevation -: 300 m

Accommodation: in a tent

 

Day 7: Oasis of Tmarendout – Marrakech. Hike in the morning (2h30) then return to Marrakech by minibus, stop for lunch on the way in a traditional Kasbah of Drâa. Return to Marrakech (6 hours by minibus), installation at the hotel. Hours of walking: between 2h30 and 3h Transfer: Minibus, between 6 a.m. and 6.30 a.m.
