Tour Plan
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Benhaddou – Dades Valley
Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from Marrakech. Travel south and east through the changing landscapes of Morocco, passing small mountain towns and traditional villages along the way. There will be several opportunities to stop, stretch your legs and capture photographs of the spectacular scenery.
Continue into the High Atlas Mountains, following a winding mountain road towards the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass. At around 2,260 metres above sea level, the pass offers impressive views across the rugged Atlas landscape.
Descend towards the historic Ait Benhaddou, your first major sightseeing stop of the day. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Morocco’s most iconic fortified villages, with its traditional earthen architecture and winding lanes. Ait Benhaddou has also featured as a backdrop in numerous international film productions, including Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven. After exploring the kasbah and enjoying lunch at a local restaurant or café, continue towards the Dades Valley.
The route takes you through Ouarzazate, the lush Skoura Oasis and Kelaat M’Gouna, famous as the capital of Morocco’s Valley of Roses. As you approach Boumalne Dades, take a scenic side road following the Dades River towards the spectacular Dades Canyons. Along the way, admire traditional fortified kasbahs, dramatic rock formations and the contrasting colours of the valley.
Arrive at your accommodation in the late afternoon and relax after a full day on the road.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Tinghir – Todra Gorge – Rissani – Merzouga
After breakfast, continue your journey through southern Morocco along the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs towards Tinghir, a beautiful oasis surrounded by rugged mountains.
From Tinghir, take a smaller road following the river towards the Todra Valley. Enjoy a leisurely walk through the palm-filled oasis and discover the traditional agricultural landscapes before continuing to the spectacular Todra Gorge. Take some time to admire the immense limestone cliffs rising dramatically on either side of the gorge. There will also be time for lunch at a local café before continuing your journey towards the Sahara.
In the afternoon, travel through the desert landscapes towards Rissani, a historic trading town and former starting point for trans-Saharan caravans travelling towards Timbuktu. The town is also renowned for its traditional souk and famous date market.
Continue across the increasingly arid landscape towards Merzouga, where the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi rise dramatically from the desert floor.
On arrival, leave your vehicle behind and climb onto your camel for an unforgettable ride through the dunes. Travel across the Sahara as the afternoon light changes, arriving at your desert camp in time to enjoy the sunset. Spend the evening beneath the stars, with a traditional Moroccan dinner and the peaceful atmosphere of the Sahara.

Day 3: Merzouga – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
Wake early to experience the spectacular Sahara sunrise as the first rays of light illuminate the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast, ride your camels back to the meeting point, where your vehicle and driver will be waiting.
Begin the long journey back towards Marrakech, retracing the route through the spectacular landscapes of southern Morocco. Continue towards Ouarzazate, where you will have time to stop for lunch and take a short break.
In the afternoon, continue north across the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass before descending towards Marrakech.
Arrive in Marrakech later in the day, marking the end of your 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Tour.
